A Face Only a Mother Could Love

On a birding walk at Eco Pond in Everglades National Park one of the park rangers described the black and turkey vultures as having faces only a mother could love. I think they're handsome. Tell me if I'm nuts.

Okay, I'm nuts, but then we all knew that already, didn't we.

Cottonmouth Encounter

The snake was almost exactly 48 inches long, a fully mature, loaded with venom, adult. The man holding its body is over six feet tall which makes the snake look less impressive than it was. The man and his wife happened along just after I'd discovered this big fella very freshly killed on the main road into Everglades National Park in early January. Below is a picture of its head and fangs.

Happy Groundhog Day!

I'm delighted this morning to have found a wireless signal from our campsite in Everglades City. This has been my first opportunity on the trip to start developing a blog. Most of my family and friends have received letters from me by now with prints enclosed of some of the sights we've encountered.
